Biographical / Historical
Christine Nowlin Forbes of Roanoke, Virginia was born in 1903 to Thomas E. and Lizzie Forbes. In 1922, she enrolled as a student at State Normal School for Women and earned her diploma in 1924. While a student at State Normal School for Women, Forbes was a member of the Roanoke Club, the Cunningham Literary Society, the Athletic Association, and YWCA. She returned to by then-State Teachers College and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1938.

The item in this collection belonged to Christine N. Forbes when she was a student at State Normal School and at State Teachers College. It was later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when the collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.
